The sudden retirement of Rep. Wayne Smith creates a void in the state.  He may have had a couple of faults (like all of us), but few people were more dogged in opposition to tax hikes and fee increases.  Rep. Wayne Smith was one of few leaders for responsive and affordable government.  He will be missed.  There are too few people in the General Assembly who even look out for the taxpayer let alone champion their cause.
