The Race is on. 27 July, 2008

The Republicans have a primary for governor along with the Democrats.  Mike Protack and Bill Lee are both official candidates.  They are both good people that I know personally and I am remaining neutral in the race.  With that said you need to know what they are saying.  Here is Mike Protack’s announcement.  (For my post on Bill Lee’s announcement follow the link.)

Although a formality, I have been a candidate for months visiting with individual Delawareans and community groups listening and talking about how I would lead Delaware in providing health care to all citizens, provide quality education to all school aged children, provide jobs to all who want to work, and protect our environment for all to enjoy.

No other Republican has stepped up to the plate with a viable message to win this election nor has any Republican candidate shown the capability to discuss the issues, lead the state or show the character to be Governor of this great state. Delaware has suffered under one Governor who too often is “unavailable for comment”. We don’t need another disengaged and incapable person holding this high office.

Consequently, I have been left to defend the principles of the Republican Party offering well though out, positive workable solutions to our poorly run government. Simply, we can’t survive  four more years of  business as usual under a Democratic Governor.

For the last 8 years the Minner/Carney administration has left the state with the Dead Weight of Tradition by having endless commissions, never ending studies, followed by empty promises and then poor results. From an under funded transportation trust fund to a violent and poorly led Delaware Psychiatric Center to a budget challenge in 2008 which was ignored.

They have not been responsible to the citizens of Delaware and it must end now.

Over a year ago I offered 50 ideas for Delaware on how our state must deal with delivering government services, how we educate our children, how we deal with illegal immigration, protecting our nationally recognized legal system, health care for everyone with Delacare, creating and protecting jobs and growing our economy, creating and utilizing energy – renewable and sustainable energy.

Under my administration I will direct a full review of all state agencies, just as business do in times of economic slowdowns, looking for consolidation and partnerships within departments to avoid duplication in services provided and economic ways to efficiently provide government services to Delawareans.  It is time to deliver VALUE to taxpayers not giveaways to special interests.

At the time of its founding, the Republican Party was organized as an answer to the divided politics, political turmoil, arguments and internal division.  The Republican party in opposition to the democratic party has been at the forefront of the fight for individuals’ rights in opposition to a large, bloated government.  Reducing government, streamlining the bureaucracy, returning power to the states and local governments is the core belief of the GOP.  We have a long and rich history with a basic principle:  Individuals, not government, can make the best decisions.  Government, like elections, are not every two years.  It is an effort that takes place every day, of every week, of every month, of every year, of every decade.  24/7/365.. Not labor day every even year if we have a candidate.  24/7/365!

Delaware has become a home to many new people in the recent years.  They have come from communities in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, some still commuting to their jobs because of low taxes and the way of life us long time Delawareans have come to enjoy.  We welcome these new families.  Many have come to escape high taxes and uncontrolled growth, many from communities long controlled by Democrats.  We have failed to remind them that the quality of life they discovered in our small wonder was brought to them by Republican fiscal leadership.  We must continue to provide this competent leadership.

During this campaign we have been and will continue to discuss the issues facing the residents of the state of Delaware: Budget, taxes, education, construction, transportation, economic growth, health care and more.  We have been and will continue to debate with all comers republican, democratic, independent, citizen and incumbent.  We are not afraid to discuss what we envision as the Delaware of the future.  Taking the good of the past, the ideas of the future and building a coalition of Delawareans who, like me, feel that the Delaware way must become a better way.

Thank you and I look forward to the rest of the campaign.
